It is almost the end of Feb, and it has been a month of varying conditions. I have seen Asahidake stripped back to bare ice by the wind and refilled again to almost its former glory. We have experienced at least 4 swirling cycles of wind and weather patterns in the last 8 weeks or so. We have skied wind scoured icy white horses, but we have been able to search for the softer white stuff lower down.
Japan is not always japow throughout the season although it doesn’t take long to reset the snow pack, when the skies open and let those fat flakes fall. Here is a short clip on ‘day off’ skiing some of my favourite lines on my home mountain Furano. No backpack, no landing restrictions, no speed limit.
Very nice bit of photography Felix. See you in May.
